In the world of philately Stephen Smith is widely known for his numerous pioneering experiments with rocket mail. He made at least 270 experiments with rocket mail firings.
This volume contains full descriptive accounts, reproduced from Stephen Smith's own hand-written diary, of a number of selected experiments, enriched with photos of some flight covers. In the middle thirties he conducted 69 experiments of which he kept meticulous notes. He also registered, in identical tabular forms, detail of all the 69 firings, together with vivid sketches of many of these incidents which he himself drew, published in this volume for the first time.
