The most popular and wanted postage stamp of the Italian Republican period was issued on 3 April 1961, to celebrate the official visit of the Italian Republic President Giovanni Gronchi in three South American States. In the postage stamp devoted to Peru, the 205 lire in rose, the state borders were wrong, and this might generate a diplomatic incident. It was withdrawn after a few hours and on 6 April it was substituted by another stamp in grey with regular borders.
There are several forgeries , and sometimes it is really difficult to recognize them.
