THE HIDDEN CORPSE
MUSSOLINI AFTER PIAZZALE LORETO
FROM CERRO MAGGIORE TO PREDAPPIO
(1946-1957)

29/30 August 1957 - 2007
From Cerro Maggiore to Predappio: Benito Mussolini's last "journey"

Where did Benito Mussolini's corpse disappear after Piazzale Loreto?

For eleven years the Italian Republic kept it hidden from enemies and Neofascists, using the monastery of Capuchin friars in Cerro Maggiore (Milan).

The author, Fabio Bonacina, carried on a useful investigation to follow the events through documents and several testimonies from people who lived those years as protagonists or simple witnesses, and through the many postcards with the images relevant to those events.

LAGERS OF LOSERS
Postal history outline of concetration camps for RSI soldiers
Historical and postal-historical information

The author leads us through a real minefield, the RSI field post, touching the zone regarding tens of thousands of young people who, between 1943 and 1945, followed the call-up of the Italian Republican National Government. These were nearly soldiers "of fortune" who received the official recognition of the status of servicemen by the Allies; however, once imprisoned in the concentration camps, they were not treated on the bases of the Geneva Convention, not even as to permission to correspond. Jannaci has individuated more than 110 detention places for soldiers of the Italian National Republican Army, from Oltano to the prisons such as Forte Boccea, to the extermination camps created in Yugoslavia.

The present second edition, with the support of the Association for the Families of RSI Fallen and Missing Men, has been updated with descriptions of camps and information unknown at the time of the first edition; additions have been included in the bibliography and new images never published before have been added.

FLEEING FROM THE FÜHRER
A POSTAL HISTORY OF
REFUGEES FROM THE NAZIS

192 pp. - colour ill. - hardbound with colour cover - 1st ed. 2011
English text

Foreword by David Beech, Head of The Philatelic Collections, The British Library.

An extraordinary collection of full colour postcards and letters tells the story of the many thousands of Jews who fled Nazi Germany and sought refuge around the world.
The only lifeline these refugees had was short postcards and letters to let each other know they were still alive. Many of these were sent from internment camps which were established worldwide to deal with the overwhelming number of asylum seekers.

A unique collection of correspondence that shows the incredible nature of this worldwide emigration and the indomitable spirit of these Jewish refugees, a rare insight into how refugees from the Nazis kept their culture and communities alive throughout the world, written by a Jewish refugee, who went to Britain with his parents just before the war.

THE MASSACRE OF THE "ACQUI DIVISION"
1939-1943
Evidences by survivors

The book, illustrated with period postcards, envelopes, letters, documents and photos, is published exactly 70 years after the massacre of the "Acqui Division", executed by the German soldiers in September 1943.

The author publishes for the first time the list of dead and missing people of Apulia and Balicata, of more than 70 correspondences and manuscripts of young soldiers of the "Acqui Division": unissued evidences of historic importance of living and dead survivors. Moreover he describes the welcome, by the town of Bari, of the corpses of the people slaughtered in Cephalonia and Corfu, happened in 1953 as reported in the newspaper "La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno" of that time.

This book, besides being a homage to the memories of those dead, represents a warning for the future Italian generations.

ROUTES OF NON RETURN
Fallen of the 2nd Polish Corps
Fallen and lost of the South-East territory of Bari in WWII

The author commemorates testimonies and events that have marked the history of the Italian people. The study and the research of unreleased documents and images, copious and here reproduced, has allowed the author to give voice to lists otherwise destined to silence and oblivion. The researches have been made by the Offices of Civil State, the Archives of the districts involved, the Archive of State in Bari and in the web-site of the Ministry of Defence "Onorcaduti" (Fallen for Honour).

The first chapter is dedicated to the 2nd Polish Corps that, landing at Taranto in December 1943, used the territory of Puglia for logistic settlements. The subsequent chapters are dedicated to the fallen and lost during WWII of the districts of Adelfia, Casamassima, Cassano delle Murge, Cellamare, Palo del Colle, Sammichele di Bari and Turi; during the Italian - Greek conflict in the Aegean Sea: the shipwrecked of "Oria" and "Sinfra" steamships; in the Balkans; in East and North Africa; in the Mediterranean Sea; overseas; on the Italian territory. The work ends with the testimonies of fighters and partisans, among which Sandro Pertini.

FORGOTTEN HEROES
ITALIAN MILITARY INTERNEES
IN THE GERMAN FIELDS 1943-1945

By this book the author intends to cast full light on the troubled events of the 770,000 Italian soldiers captured and kept in captivity by the German soldiers after 8 September 1943.

The Italian military internees were, even more than the prisoners of war, at the mercy of the German Commands, since, because of their anomalous "status", not foreseen by the international treaties, they were not safeguarded by the Geneva Convention of 1929, remaining outside its field of application.
This subject is dealt exhaustively in the first part of the book, also thanks to the numerous documents present in it.
The second part examines the Feldpost numbers of the Prison Camps and of the prisoner formations, with the insertion of the abbreviation table to facilitate their reading. Almost 60 pages are devoted to the censor marks used in the different camps.

For safety reasons, no internee could state the place where any German formation worked and where he was kept in. Nevertheless many cases can be found of correspondence whose text mentions the formation position, or bears a mark in the frontispiece with the place stamped in it.
Serious attention is paid to the verification of real situations, to have a picture as precise as possible of the extent of the Italian military internees, of their relocation - identifying the Camps and the formations where they were kept in - of the treatment they underwent, of the work organization, of their relationships, even towards the outside, by means of the correspondence, in spite of the censorship that primly limited every communication.

When war was by then compromised and Greece had already been completely abandoned, Hitler ordered thirty thousand men, among which many Italian, to defend at any cost a handful of islands in the Aegean Sea. The only connection between them and the rest of the world was a bold service of air mail.

This volume, reader-friendly and richly illustrated, represents a guide for the knowledge of Inselpost overprints, including rarities, varieties, plate errors; it helps to distinguish originals from fakes and to discover the few existing covers and their history.
