The two authors have joint their competences in this tremendous work, rich of information and of reproductions of documents, maps, photographs, postal documents,..., divided into different chapters: historical placement according to the chronological criterion; the postal service of the Armée d'Italie; the Armée des Alpes in Piedmont and the relevant cataloguing of postal prints; the Armée de Reserve and the relevant cataloguing of postal prints; the cataloguing of the postal prints of the Armée d'Italie and of other French Armies in the period 1792-1814.

In the second volume, the catalogue lists the letters found according to origin, dating, kind of postmark and colour. No valuations are present.
