THE EFFIGIES OF THE IV ISSUE

Study and classification of Sardinia Kingdom IV issue effigies (1855-1863), Kingdom perforated (1862), Sardinia type (1863), the two issues for Naples Provinces (1861). The effigies analysis has been effected through postage stamps macrophotographs which show all the little details not-visible to the naked eye. Here is a story of an Italian stamp forger and his engraved forgeries - Erasmo Oneglia, whom history almost let pass unnoticed. One hundred years ago he was perhaps the most prolific forger active. The scope of his forgeries was immense. The most interesting, his engraved forgeries, are listed in detail, illustrated and discussed in this book.
The forgeries include stamps from Australian States, Brazil, british North America, British West Indies, Cape of Good Hope, Ceylon, Chle, Greece, Hong Kong, Italian States, Malayan States, Malta, St. Helena, Thailand and the United and Confederate States of America.
The Oneglia story includes a discussion of his interactions with other contemporary forgers and forgeries distributors - Edoardo Spiotti, A. Venturini, Adrien Champion, the brothers of Jean De Sperati and most likely Jean himself, François Fournier, Nino Imperato nad Angelo Panelli.

The book shows the actual usage of many of the different types of Madame Joseph forged cancellations. It compares genuine usages with the Madame Joseph cancels for the same dates, including the 1935 Silver Jubilee and the Leeward Islands, lists substituted and suppressed dates, and provides an index of Madame Joseph types.
The cancel reproductions on forty transparent overlays can be used on top of a postmark for comparison to help both collectors and dealers in the identification of the forgeries.
