VACCARI, PHILATELY OF QUALITY AND SPECILIZED BOOKS

Since 1977 on the international scene

1975
At the age of 6, Paolo Vaccari starts following his hobby and his passion for philately and postal history. Still young, he collects postage stamps and takes part in exhibitions, meetings and lectures.

In 1975 during the philatelic meeting in the Lido of Venice he is awarded for his collection "Penny Black" by Naldino Scarpa and Aldo Gobbi Pozzolini.
1977
On 4 February Paolo Vaccari officially starts his activity together with his wife Renata who cooperates and takes part in exhibitions and meetings. The Philatelic Study is based in small premises of 12 square metres.
The first sale by offer takes place on 26 April 1977.

1978
In Leghorn Paolo Vaccari receives the "Tuscany cup" diploma for his display "postal use of 15 cent. of Sardinia".
1979
The guarantee certificate no.1
Paolo Vaccari is given the award "Italy at work".
1980
Together with the Philatelic Group, an exhibition is organized in Palazzo Barozzi in Vignola.
1981
The first public and by mail auction dates back to 21 March.
1982
By the Club la Meridiana in Casinalbo (Mo) there is an important public auction.
1983
Even during the philatelic meeting in Verona the usual public auction is organized.
1984
The publishing activity starts with the reprint of "Postage stamps of the Duchy of Modena and of Modena Provinces" by Emilio Diena.

1985
The promotion "special card" reserved to clients to get special discounts.
The volume "Modena postage stamps and cancellations 1852-1863" is officially presented in the Military Academy of Modena by Enzo Diena and Elio Monducci, manager of Banco San Geminiano e San Prospero, sponsor of the book.
The exhibition on the Duchy of Modena organized in the Club la Meridiana in Casinalbo (Mo).
At Veronafil Paolo Vaccari receives the gold badge for his 30 years as a member of a federate club by the president of the Federation of Italian Philatelic Associations, Beppe Ermentini, and by Guido Strapazzon, Verona Committee.
From 25 October to 3 November Vaccari takes part in the great world philatelic event in Rome "Italia 85".
1989
Double inauguration of the new auction room, exhibition and conference hall: on 29 January, with the display of postage stamps of 1800s and on 18 February, with an auction sale which is really attended.
First publication of "Vaccari Magazine", six-monthly magazine specialized in philately and postal history.
In June, Edizioni Vaccari s.a.s. of Silvia and Valeria Vaccari was born. The editorial activity starts with the spread of philatelic literature through the publication of specialized books and catalogues.

On 19 January, in Chiampo (Vi) Townhall Room, presentation of the book by Fortunato Marchetto "Kingdom of Sardinia - Kingdom of Italy, the stamped paper 1814-1946" in the presence of the culture councillor, Ferruccio Zecchini.
First publication of "Vaccari Catalogue postage stamps and postal history 1850-1900", yearly edition with real market prices.
On 1 June, by the Club La Meridiana in Casinalbo (Mo), MP Giulio Andreotti receives the international prize "Modena Mondo" as a writer, essayist, journalist and statesman.
As a philatelist, he is given two covers of the Papal State of 1870 by Paolo Vaccari.
In October, the first book on Modena dialect "A doctor in Modena" appears. It is presented in the Sala dei 100 in Modena and it obtains great public success.
1991
During the "Day for Philately" in Turin, Vaccari's stand is visited by the Post Managing Director, Enrico Veschi.
Presentation of the volume "From Carbonari revolts to Ciro Menotti 1820-1831" by the Chamber of Commerce in Modena on 10 December, in the presence of the author Edoardo P. Ohnmeiss.
1992
The Minister for Communication visits Vaccari's stand during the international meeting for thematics "Genova ‘92".
1993
On 5 February, by the Military Academy of Modena, in the presence of the Commander Gen. Alberto Zignani and several authorities, Gen. Paolo Langella, as expert in military history, presents the book "Italy in Gulf War".
Philately at the Book Fair in Turin. Edizioni Vaccari takes part in it with a stand and a catalogue with specialized books.
Paolo Vaccari is decorated "Master of Commerce" as he has worked in the commercial sector for more than forty years.
1995
One section of the catalogue "Vaccari - The Philatelic Bookshop" is devoted to the "1x1" sale, which presents new and second hand, ancient and rare books, magazines, catalogues, decrees, postal regulations, several curiosities and some really difficult to be found works.

On 30 March, Vaccari donates a letter-box of the Royal Post used during the first world war to the Museum of the Post in Rome; it is consigned to its curator, Marcello Cartacci.
Vaccari Catalogue becomes a catalogue with quotations and is sold to the public.

Cooperation with the British Library of London starts and Paolo Vaccari is invited to make the cataloguing of the Italian part of the famous Tapling Collection.

1996
The periodical "Vaccari Magazine" becomes sponsor, starting from this edition, of "Bazzi Prize", held every year in Mantua. The award is given to Eros Donnini for philately.
In October, the site www.vaccari.it is one of the first philatelic sites in Italy to appear in internet, not only as a window but also already as E-commerce.
Donation to the community of the "Book for the Incomes of the Community of Vignola" of 1585.
The series "The Blue Anteater" gathers publications about history, sport, art, local culture and guides for the free time.

Vignola boasts a solid tradition relevant to cherries and this is illustrated in the volume "The Fruit of Paradise" which opens the series.

The rare cover of the Provisional Government of Modena, franked with the strip of three of cent. 80, is knocked down to Vaccari at Phillips auction in London in November.
1997
On the occasion of the celebrations for the fourth centenary of Modena as a Capital City, Vaccari-Books takes part in the cultural events by publishing the two catalogues of the exhibitions "Nobilitas Estensis" and "Adeodato Malatesta and the Atestina Academy" (1998).

On 9 July, Silvia and Valeria take part in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of wedding between Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth and His Highness the Duke of Edinburgh organized in London by the Crown Agents for the launch of the new stamp issue and by the British Library for their move to the new seat in St. Pancras.
1998
Edizioni Vaccari s.a.s. changes into Vaccari s.r.l. of Silvia and Valeria Vaccari with Paolo Vaccari as the President of the Board of Directors.

In October, the great World Philatelic Exhibition in Milan "Italia 98".
On the occasion, "Vaccari Magazine" celebrates its 10 years and a souvenir plaque is given to the authors and contributors. Maurizio Tecardi, the first editorial director of the magazine.
Two new volumes in the series "History through Documents" are presented: the book by Fabio Bonacina "Propaganda with teeth" and that by Lorenzo Carra "1866 the Liberation of Venetia" which is awarded with the gold medal with felicitations.

The important philatelic exhibition "From the Italian States to the unity of Italy" is held in the Sala della Lupa in Montecitorio from 22 to 26 October on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Roman Republic. Also Paolo Vaccari displays his material and is part of the organizing committee.

On-line "Vaccari Magazine": the first philatelic magazine to appear in internet.

Cooperation with the British Library of London continues and in May Vaccari starts supporting its Newsletter.

On the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the first stamps in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, in Florence, Paolo Vaccari puts on show his collection "Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Soldi, quattrini and crazie".
The offices are moved to an area of 700 square metres.
In June, Vaccari takes part in the 1st meeting of the young members of the National Federation for Italian Philatelic Dealers.
Paolo Vaccari is on the committee of the Constitutional Court for postage stamps and philately, technical body of the Ministry for Communication.
2002
The display at the exhibition held in Piacenza "Duchy of Parma and Piacenza" opens the series devoted to the 150th anniversary of Este postage stamps.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Este postage stamps Vaccari organizes the exhibition "Modena 1852-2002" from 31 May to 9 June 2002 by San Carlo Church in Modena and there is great public success.

The catalogue of the exhibition obtains very large national and international consent.

For the 150th anniversary of Papal State postage stamps, display at "Romafil" and consignment of the "fidelity" prize to mr. Bruno Lorenzo, client from 1977.
On 19 October, the first public auction of philately, postal history and philatelic literature is held in the new seat in Vignola.

Philately also in the libraries. Vaccari takes part in the second edition of Bibliocom, the fair specialized for institutions and libraries.
2003
Vaccari-Books receives the "prize for culture 2002" by the Cabinet of Ministers.
On 8 March "Vaccari news, philately in real time" was born. The daily service of news on-line is relevant to the world of the Post and philately.

In the Sala della Lupa in Montecitorio an important exhibition on the Kingdom of Italy illustrated through philately is organized.
During the opening: Paolo Vaccari, the Minister for Relations with the Parliament, Carlo Giovanardi, Renata Vaccari and Bruno Crevato-Selvaggi, the curator of the exhibition.

From 25 April to 27 May the «Vatican click», the exhibition of the photographic service of L'Osservatore Romano, takes place. Vaccari is one of the sponsors with the volume «John Paul II, Visits of Hope. World stamps witness the travels of Pope Wojtyla» and a set of eight postcards on the subject.

Two volumes open the new series «Meeting History», which develops specific historical themes in a narrative way, starting from the analysis of documents.

Vaccari is also sponsor of the «Progetto Giovani», organized by the Associazione filatelica numismatica scaligera and by the Circolo Unicredit of Verona, a prize competition for children from primary and middle school, who are called to develop themes relevant to the world of the Post.

The new edition of «Vaccari 2008-2009», valid two years, the historical study and catalogue with valuations, which analyzes the Italian stamps and postal history from 1850 to 1900. Ready in November and officially presented on the occasion of the meeting in Verona, it is also available by the PT shops and the philatelic points of the Italian Post.

At the philatelic exhibition Milanofil, there is the presentation of the new volume which, for the first time, deals with international postal routes and rates for mail from and to the Old Italian States.

On 15 March, Unicef awards Paolo Vaccari with the prize «Ragno d'oro» 2008 for the section of commerce. The prize is awarded to Modenese, either by birth or adoption, who with their works have contributed to increasing Modena's prestige both at home and abroad.
The Chancellor of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Prof. Gian Carlo Pellacani, consigns the medal.

Inauguration of the new auction room, greatly enlarged and modernized, on 12 April, on the occasion of the public auction of philately, postal history and philatelic books. The premises have been doubled and divided in order to offer the best functionality and comfort during any step of the auction. In a wide next room it is possible to see the lots and to follow the auction on a screen at the same time.

Among the lots offered at the auction, there is a unique Risorgimento relic connected to the third War for Independence, whose owner wishes to devolve the sale return to science. Vaccari likes the idea and adds a sum equal to the price realised. On the whole, the amount given to A.I.R.C. (Italian Association for Cancer Research) is 3,800 euro.

The lot for charity (in Italian)

Vaccari supports the clown therapy, that is the application of techniques coming from circus and street theatre to discomfort situations. The non-profit association VIP (Viviamo In Positivo, that is Let's live positively), the organizer of the «fourth day of the red nose» in Modena on 17 and 18 May, involves 2500 volunteers who regularly visit hospitals, rest homes, communities for disabled people and for children, to bring unlucky people a bit of joy and relief.

The second national congress «Filatelica - La filatelia nel III millennio» takes place on 14 and 15 June in Bazzano (Bologna), organized by Forum Filatelia e Francobolli and by Fondazione Rocca dei Bentivoglio, with the support of Bazzano Townhall and Vaccari who commits itself in the publication of the proceedings. «The secrets of great philately within the reach of anybody» is the motto chosen by the organizers of the event.

Paolo Vaccari presents a precious item, in the exhibition signed by the Club de Monte-Carlo de l'élite de la philatélie (he is one of its members), on the occasion of «Wipa 2008», the international philatelic exhibition held in Vienna from 18 to 21 September. It is a package wrapper whose franking is formed by five different colours (1, 5, 10, 20 centimes and 3 lire), the only one known bearing the 1 cent. and 3 lire postage stamps.

Renewal for the home page of the company site, not simply as to layout. In order to make information easier and easier to be found, the sections devoted to philately and books have been kept on the sides, while in the middle there are auction returns, new publications, meetings and events, news from the company, and much more.

The «History Bookshop» is born: a completely new section specialised in history and military history, aviation, the navy, arms and armoured vehicles, corps, uniforms and military badges, fortifications and defence operations, with several new publications from the most important Italian publishers. Updates are regularly proposed in the site.

The «Junior Project», an event addressed to young people, to make them know the world of philately. Again Vaccari takes part in one among the several activities organized for the young, this time on the occasion of Romafil (10-12 October) and of the «Day for philately», by the Federation of Italian philatelic societies.
All the children are given promotional items by the Italian Post and 850 kilos in catalogues and books by Vaccari.

In issue no. 86 dated 29 October of «Emme», the weekly paper of Confindustria Modena, the General Confederation of Italian Industry, an interesting article centred on the history and activity of Vaccari, both philatelic and as a publisher, appears: «Pieces of paper? No, windows on the world».

On 1 and 2 November, it takes part in «Militalia», the fair of military-history collecting held in Milan. The company presents the catalogues devoted to history and military history, and the two volumes of the series «Meeting history», that is «The redshirts» and «The hidden corpse».

On 15 November, in the auction room in Vignola, the first public auction fully devoted to books about history and military history, «great history told in great books», takes place. Rare, ancient, new books, great series, bargains, all of them dealing with military history, the navy, aviation, history, uniforms, arms and armoured vehicles.

In November, the magazine of philately and postal history information «Vaccari Magazine», on the occasion of Veronafil, celebrates 20 years of publication. For those who have given their cooperation during the years a plate as a keepsake and for subscribers the analytical index for free, a really useful bibliographic reference with all the articles published from no.1 of 1989 to no.40 divided by subject, author and magazine.

2009
From 13 to 15 February, Vaccari catalogue «History Bookshop», which presents the volumes about history and military history of the modern and contemporary period, is at «Regàl Torino», the three-days devoted to military collecting and memorabilia.

As usual, on the occasion of the Modenese night for the «Ragno d'oro» pro Unicef, Paolo Vaccari gives, as a present, the sheets of the first set of postage stamps which Italy devoted to Unicef, for its twenty-five years of activity, on 26 November 1971. On 7 March, Andrea Bocelli receives the symbolic recognition.

In March, a new section of the site, «investment suggestions», opens with the aim of promoting great philately as a collecting phenomenon and as an investment sector. There are «items to collect emotions», postage stamps which tell our history and at the same time represent a good «alternative investment».

Vaccari continues to support the events for young people organized by the Federation of the Italian philatelic societies. At Milanofil, on 27 and 28 March, many children participate in the «treasure hunt», part of «Progetto junior 2», among the stands.

Paolo Vaccari is created honorary member of the prestigious Milanese society, the Italian association for postal history, as a form of recognition «to the career, the competence and honesty of a true lover of the philatelic and postal world».

The realization of the idea of assigning part of the amount generally spent for Christmas presents to charity initiatives was accelerated by the earthquake in Abruzzo on the night of 6 April. The 7,000 euro donated are a contribution to help survivors and for the reconstruction of the buildings.

On the occasion of the public auction of philately, postal history and books of 18 April, the charity experience of last auction is repeated: the return of one of the lots, a group of items connected to space, is donated to charity and Vaccari adds an amount equal to the price realised. The sum given to the onlus association VIP Viviamo in positivo (Let's live positively - clowntherapy) is 2,400 euro.

Vaccari continues to support the important initiative addressed to young people and organized by the philatelic and numismatic association Scaligera and by Unicredit Group Circolo Verona. This time «Progetto giovani» is centered on «Sport as a master of life». Thus, it is not by chance that among the books given to the winners of the competition, on the occasion of Veronafil on 30 May, there is also «Champions of the World, The stamps issued by the organizing and winner countries of football world championships 1930-2006» by Fabio Bonacina.

Also Vaccari takes part in the collecting of books to be delivered in Abruzzo in the tent cities where the earthquake evacuee temporarily live, organized by the Italian association for publishers, the Ministry of cultural heritage and environmental conservation, and the Civil defence.

Paolo Vaccari, with the precious support by Nino Aquila, President of the Sicilian philatelic Union, and Francesco Lombardo, collector and one of the best experts on the subject, announces the publication of his study about the distinctive elements of the different plates of the postage stamps of Sicily, on the occasion of «Sicilia 2009», on 20 June. Included in an elegant slip-case with the comparative study, the English version and the 15 plates life size, the work stands out thanks to the detailed study, the updates, and the reproductions for the first time fully in colours. It will be available at «Italia 2009» in Rome in October.

20 years have passed. On 30 June 1989, Edizioni Vaccari sas of Silvia and Valeria Vaccari were born; they then joined, in 1998, the commercial activity of their father, Paolo Vaccari, in Vaccari srl.

On the occasion, a monograph is published, a short overview on space mail relevant to Berezovoy.

50 Italian postage stamps of the Republican period: the special gift created on purpose will be donated in every event organized for young students; the company has been one of the sponsors for some years.
Among concrete solidarity actions, even the participation in the project of the Italian Philatelic Press Union who adopts one letter-box from Aquila damaged by the earthquake of 6 April. On 31 October and 1 November, the company takes part in «Militalia», the fair of military-history collecting. At Monacophil from 4 to 6 December Paolo Vaccari, as a member of the Club de Monte-Carlo de l'élite de la philatélie, exhibits his collection on the typographical errors (1852-1859) of the Duchy of Modena, which have always been considered to be the most interesting among the Old Italian States stamps with irregularities; moreover, they are particularly rare. He has also a Lombardy Venetia item in the section of the one hundred rarities: the maximum block known of the stamp for newspapers of 1,05 soldi issued in 1863.

In March 2010, postal charges to deliver books through the Italian Post have been increased, but Vaccari has decided not to penalize the clients and to bear the economic load coming from the difference between the new rate and the price paid by clients.
Some experiments and analysis have been carried out, and the result has been the reorganization of delivery methods in Italy in order to offer a choice based on a combination of delivery dates, weight and price.

The Italian Philatelic Press Union gives its awards 2010 on the occasion of Romafil (29-31 October 2010). Paolo Vaccari receives the prize for philatelic literature, thanks to his volume «Sicilia 1859 - Comparative plates of stamps». Fabio Bonacina, for his job as editor of «Vaccari news - philately in real time», the daily web magazine of the company, receives the prize for journalism.

On Wednesday, 10 November at 6.30 p.m., by one of the most important bookshops in Milan, Rizzoli, in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele 79, there is the presentation of last volume in the series «meeting History» by Vaccari.
It is «Caproni in the First world war», the work by Rosario Abate and Giorgio Apostolo on the story of the strategic bomber written in 1970 and now reworked with several changes with respect to the first edition.
The event is coordinated by the journalist Maurizio Pagliano. Apostolo takes part together with Umberto Caproni, one of the seven children of the founder of one of the most important Italian factories.

No more mysteries for the Nineteenth century with the XIV edition 2011-2012 of Vaccari catalogue-historical study, after 20 years of publication. Specialised in postage stamps and postal history of the Italian States, Provisional Governments and Kingdom of Italy to 1900, it is rich in philatelic and postal-history information, and there are more than 1200 colour illustrations. On 1 February, by the club Zetadue in Modena, Paolo Vaccari lectures on the history of the Post in the Duchy of Modena and its postage stamps from 1852 to 1860. He follows his work «Modena 1852-2002 - 150th anniversary of Este postage stamps». The event is part of a series of meetings about the history and art of Modena.

In the Sala della Lupa in Montecitorio, a really prestigious location, from 29 March to 5 April, included in the celebrations for the 150 years from the Unity of Italy, the exhibition «Quel magnifico biennio 1859-1861» is organized: the pre-unity years illustrated through postage stamps and postal documents, Italian history through the Post. Risorgimento in the Duchy of Modena is the subject of the lecture by Paolo Vaccari on 24 May, during the meeting organized by Lions Club Vignola e Castelli Medioevali. Through the analysis of postal documents and mail it is possible to discover some historical details relevant to those days.

The reprint of the volume by E.P.Ohnmeiss «From Carbonari revolts to Ciro Menotti 1820 - 1831» appears at «Romafil» by Palazzo dei Congressi (EUR) from 18 to 20 November. A passion, that for philately, born when Paolo Vaccari was six years old, but the commercial activity started 35 five years ago when he opened his «Studio filatelico», in a 12 square metres room, with his wife Renata. It was the 4 February 1977.
Little by little everything developed: more and more exhibitions, auctions, awards, the cooperation of the daughters Valeria and Silvia, the specialized publishing.
Many years have passed and the activity has been greatly developed, but the enthusiasm has remained the same.

On 30 September, there is the inauguration of the small houses built for the Integrated Therapy Centre for children «La Lucciola», in the province of Modena: the rehabilitation structure, which gives hospitality to children and young people with physical, mental and multiple handicaps, has been completely condemned because of the earthquake in Emilia. A project realized in a very short time also thanks to Fondazione Rava that Vaccari has been supporting together with those who have given their contribution just donating a brick.

At Romafil, from 12 to 14 October, Paolo Vaccari shows part of his collection centred on the cent.25 blue of 1879 at the exhibition organized by the Italian Association for Postal History devoted to international relations in the period 1861-1961. At the stand, the just published catalogue for postage stamps «Net Price Sale», then regularly updated in the site, is available.

Vaccari is among the major publishers and dealers of the sector and is at Iphla 2012, the international exhibition specialized in philatelic literature, in Mainz, Germany, from 2 to 4 November. The company takes part in the competition where the most important works published in the world are selected: results are really satisfying for all the titles presented.

The daily web magazine «Vaccari news», which has been publishing, since 2003, real time news about philately, postal history and collecting, a fundamental reference for collectors, journalists, press agencies, and also for people working in the field, has been selected as the best web site in Italy for philatelic information. And another recognition arrives at the international specialized event Iphla 2012: among the web sites, it reaches the best position, and is awarded with the Large Gold medal and the Special Prize too.

On the same days, on 3 and 4 November, the company is also at «Militalia», the fair of military-history collecting, a very important meeting not only for those interested in weapons and uniforms but also for history lovers. And in the «History Bookshop» there are hundreds of titles centred on contemporary civilian and military history, the Army, Navy and Aviation.

On the occasion of Veronafil, from 23 to 25 November, last issue of «Vaccari Magazine», specialized in philately and postal history, is ready and it is accompanied by the Newsletter written by the British Library Philatelic Collections of London that Vaccari has been supporting for years in order to let also Italian readers know the important institution. The update to the analytical index, a really useful bibliographical tool with all the articles published in the magazine, can be found in the free site Issuu.

On 8 and 9 December, the Association of Modena publishers organizes a large outdoors bookshop, «LibriaModena», and Vaccari takes part in it with volumes dealing with Modena culture, but also postage stamps, postal history and collecting. A good book... to fill one's free time with good ideas.

In 2012, the Italian region Emilia has experienced heavy destruction due to the earthquake. Vaccari has chosen to help particularly its own territory giving its support to specific projects which have been realized in a very short time: Mediafriends (school in Sant'Agostino - Ferrara) and Fondazione Rava (rehabilitation centre for children in Ravarino - Modena). Since some years, Christmas presents have been turned into charity initiatives to help different Onlus Associations. Notwithstanding the earthquake emergency, some help has been also given to «Vip Modena - Viviamo in positivo» (clowntherapy), Fondazione Ant Italia and Unicef.

The History of the sacrifice by the Hero of Italian Risorgimento, Ciro Menotti, and of Carbonari revolts from 1820 to 1831 presented through original documents of the time, all illustrated, sent or spread by the Postal Service. The volume obtains the diploma of honour in Locri, in a merely historical contest, in confirmation that, thanks to mail and postage stamps, it is possible to find out details about history, civilization, politics and life in the past. It is not by chance that one of the series by Vaccari is called «History through documents».

8 March 2003 - 8 March 2013: «Vaccari news» is 10. It is not simply a site dealing with postage stamps, but a daily web magazine specialized in philately and postal culture. Over ten thousand the news published: the running commentary of new issues and the protagonists, the appointments for lovers and the editorial events, the technological matters and the services offered at counters, the postal architecture and the norms. A service always free also in supplementary supports, such as the archives with what published in the past, the weekly newsletter, the shows and exhibitions agenda and the issue programme.
Mobility is the leading factor used for celebrations, making the «app» available, to be downloaded free from the Apple store.

On Saturday 6 April, at Milanofil, with the cooperation of the Italian Philatelic Press Union, the Italian-English bilingual study by Paolo Cardillo, achieved also thanks to the analysis of Emilio Diena's archives, «Proofs, essays and reprints of the II and III issues of the Kingdom of Sardinia. A study and catalogue» is presented: the kind of proofs that the great type-lithographer Francesco Matraire used, how and why he used them, the final essays, the genesis of the IV issue, the reprints, a detailed catalogue, numerous illustrative tables.
The work is awarded the large gold and the felicitations by the jury at Aps Stampshow in the United States.

The usual charity initiative, this year aimed at helping the reconstruction of the Emilian territories damaged by the earthquake, continues on the occasion of the 19 and 20 April public auction of philately, postal history, Space, postcards and philatelic literature. 4,150 euro are the net proceeds of two lots, a complete series of Sicily and one triptych of Balbo «Servizio di stato», donated to «Tutti insieme a Rovereto e Sant'Antonio», a non-profit association operating in the two Modenese communities, among the most devastated by the earthquake, to rebuild, in Rovereto sulla Secchia (Modena), a multi-purpose service centre, able to house municipal and health offices now destroyed.
On 2 July the Centre is inaugurated: a beautiful example of how it is possible to make a dream come true, to fulfil a plan thanks to the contribution of philately too.

On Saturday 8 June, at «LibriaModena» in Vignola, a half-serious meeting takes place with the postcard collector Enrico Sturani, author of the volume «Italy! Wake up! A “Boot” full of postcards». Introduced by «Vaccari news» editor, Fabio Bonacina, and pressed by the questions of the audience, he tries to answer the question: «Is Italy really waken up?» The goal is to make an ideal travel among satirical postcards, presented by one of the maximum experts in the field, but with a smile on his lips, among history, curiosities and collecting.

Vaccari Facebook page exceeds the first one thousand «I like it» a little more than one year after the opening; it is regularly updated with information and images, suggestions for initiatives, commercial proposals always new and different. A direct and immediate way of interacting with customers who have the opportunity to share what is published, as well as to «post» opinions and considerations.

The volume signed by Fabio Bonacina, «Habemus Papam. All the Popes from Francesco to Pio XII. The album-book of Italian postage stamps», goes over the Italian history from the post-war period to today through the postage stamps that Italy has dedicated to the latest seven Popes. The pontiffs are introduced by the authors of the brochures connected to the issues. At Romafil, from 18 to 20 October, the new editorial catalogue the «Philatelic Bookshop» is available with thousands of titles about philately and collecting from all over the world. In order to give a more and more updated service, the «1x1» sale and the «History Bookshop» have not been included in the paper version but they are considerable and particularly interesting in the site. For both sections, an extremely flexible instrument, as only the site can be, is necessary to readers.

Also «Vaccari news», the daily web magazine, starts «twittering», with its presence on Twitter. This new channel foresees very short spaces for fast and immediate communication, for the information to be given at once and for previews. Thanks to the free subscription, as «follower», it is possible to receive the notices directly in one's e-mail box. And by means of the new Facebook page interaction with the editorial staff is really easy.
These are two new instruments to promote philately and postal history outside the traditional circle, to contribute to the diffusion of collecting in other fields.

At Veronafil, from 22 to 24 November, «Vaccari Magazine», the six-monthly magazine of postal history information, celebrates 25 years of publication with the «golden» number 50. On that occasion, for free the new analytical index with all the articles published from 1989.

At Monacophil from 5 to 7 December, Paolo Vaccari, as a member of the Club de Monte-Carlo de l'élite de la philatélie, contributes to the traditional exhibition dedicated to the one hundred world rarities proposing one unpaid letter sent from Rome to Campagnano on 30 December 1863 that shows a block of ten copies of chrome yellow 3 baj with grid cancellation, the maximum multiple known for this type.
On 14 December an auction to... fly with. The «Enea» collection is put up for auction, a wonderful collection of postal evidences entirely devoted to Air mail with world rarities. The history of human flight is represented in 182 lots, from Ballon Monté to international and Italian forerunners up to the Space conquest.

Vaccari undergoes a burglary in its seat on the night between 9 and 10 March. A great many of the material stolen was the one available in the company site and therefore photographed. They are mainly items of postal history, postage stamps, fragments and lots of the following sections: Italian States, Kingdom of Italy, Italian Social Republic and Regency, Trieste AMG-VG/FTT, Italian Post Offices abroad, occupations, military, destinations, Risorgimento, San Marino, Vatican and foreign countries; besides cancellations of many regions of Italy and Italian Colonies.

In the public auction of 12 April, the section devoted to literature is all represented by an important philatelic library, the one that the scholar Vito Salierno has built in decades of engagement. 700 lots of books and magazines about philately and postal history with rare or anyhow hard to find titles, others unusual or that can be defined as basic.

Thanks to the three lots made available for the charity initiative connected to the public auction of philately, postal history and philatelic literature of 12 April, 2,400 euro are donated to Fondazione ANT Italia onlus, engaged in offering free social-health assistance at home to tumour sufferers, and in cancer prevention activities.

The 27 April is Pope Wojtyla's canonization day. A few days later, on 3 May, on the occasion of «LibriaModena», the exhibition of Modenese publishing, the journalist Fabio Bonacina, author of the volume «John Paul II. Visits of Hope», holds a conference leading the audience to the Countries visited by the Pope by means of the wonderful postage stamps dedicated to him. The «Ciliegiario», an amusing, small dictionary about Vignola cherries: to taste the culture, the history and the curiosities of local tradition. A juicy fruit, temping and rich of surprises, known all over the world. Pierluigi Albertini «leaves» for a «coloured» travel and reveals the mysteries of this fruit so appreciated, on Saturday 7 June nearby the Castle of Vignola. The meeting fits in among the events organized by the Association of Modenese Publishers, under the aegis of the Municipality and with the contribution of Vignola Foundation, on the occasion of the exhibition of local publishing on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June.

30 June 1989 - 30 June 2014 - 25 years of publishing devoted to philately and Modena culture.
25 years ago, Silvia e Valeria Vaccari form Edizioni Vaccari s.a.s. to develop the publishing activity already started by their father Paolo Vaccari, in his Studio Filatelico, engaged since 1977 in the sale of postage stamps and postal history items. (In 1998 the two companies merge in Vaccari S.r.l.) This is the start of the publishing of books and catalogues specialized in philately and postal history and of the diffusion of philatelic culture, that is the base of every collecting.

A quarter of century among books

Paolo Vaccari collection «Duchy of Modena - Typographic errors 1852-1859» is on show by Mart, the prestigious museum in Rovereto (Trento), from 10 to 12 October on the occasion of the twentieth exhibition of philately, numismatics and cartophily. The anomalies produced during the setting of the printing plates in the issues of the Duchy are particularly rare, in some cases unique.

The new volume by the journalist Fabio Bonacina, «Champions of the world 2. The stamps issued by the organizing and winner countries of football world championships 2010-2014», is presented at Romafil on 25 October. Together with volume 1, it tells the story of world football championships, from Rimet Cup of 1930 to the event scheduled for 2018, through postal issues.

Paolo Vaccari, «master of commerce», receives, on 1 March, the «Diamond Eagle» by Modena Confcommercio, an award given to those who have been working in commerce, tourism or services, for sixty years, «a prize for a life spent serving the others», «devoted to work and to economy development».

In the public auction of 18 April, together with the usual section of philately and postal history, the important «Vito Salierno» D'Annunzio Library is presented in a specific catalogue «Prestige». Original editions, critical and biographical essays, other copies of original editions and reprints, Quaderni Dannunziani, Quaderni del Vittoriale, magazines, the infinite source of historical and iconographical information represented by Professor Salierno's personal notes and press releases archives.

At the end of the public auction of philately, postal history and «Vito Salierno» D'Annunzio Library of 18 April, for the charity initiative connected, there is the selection of a lot whose return, 2,200 euro, is given to the non-profit association Fondazione ANT Italia, who take care of free assistance to tumour sufferers and of prevention.

On 6 June, the cent.80 postage stamp devoted to Vignola IGP cherries is presented in the town hall of the city. At the celebration also Pietro La Bruna, the Italian Post responsible for philately. On the occasion, two sets of postcards are produced: one, with seven items relevant to the fruit (in a limited number, also with the stamp and cancellation); the other one, with five reproductions of documents chosen among the 125 pieces from Paolo Vaccari collection «The Post in Vignola 1800-1950» on show.

On the occasion of Italiafil, in Florence by Fortezza da Basso on 23 and 24 October, Paolo Vaccari presents (not competing) part of his collection devoted to the city: in 84 frames, 133 documents to follow the history of Florence through its mail in the period when it was the Capital City of the Kingdom of Italy, after 150 years.

The Quirinal, from 15 to 28 October, opens its doors to philately thanks to the exhibition «The Great War. Liberation of Italy. 100 Gems of Italian Philately». An important event addressed to and organized for the general public, so that people have the possibility to see how postage stamps and postal documents tell our history. Among the «gems», also seven items lent by Paolo Vaccari.

At Veronafil, on 27 November, the new work by Fiorenzo Longhi, «AEROFILIA ITALIANA 1884-1920. From the Pioneers of Aviation to the “Aces” of the Great War», the historical descriptive catalogue of Italian air force postmarks. A comprehensive study with 1,423 marks recorded, 607 documents reproduced in colours, point evaluations and historical introductions for every period examined.

Published by Vaccari in exclusive for the Italian Post, «I love you. Postage stamps talk to hearts. Book-album» is sold by the philatelic points of the Italian Post. Love is seen through the postage stamps whose subject is love. Ten examples have been chosen: three from Italy and seven from the rest of the world. Subjects, surprises, techniques: a wonderful journey to be offered to a loved person, who probably does not know how many possibilities stamps can present.

Two works strictly connected together at Milanofil on 19 March, with the cooperation of the Italian Philatelic Press Union: Fiorenzo Longhi, one of the maximum experts on Italian Aerophilately, is the author of the historical descriptive catalogue of Italian air force postmarks, «Aerofilia italiana 1884-1920», but also of the presentation of the volume «Umberto Nobile and Norge Transpolar Flight. History, mail, documents and memorabilia», by Emilio Milisenda.

Several presentations, one at the Istituto Geografico Polare Silvio Zavatti in Fermo on 10 April, the day when the dirigible left Ciampino in 1926.

Besides the usual sections in Vaccari auctions, that is philately and postal history, in the auction of 30 April there is a part devoted to postcards, some of them really important, with single items but also lots which gather more examples. The focus is on Aviation and flight, in every aspect, from simple ascents to races, from military and civilian dirigibles to air circuits. Particularly rich is also Regionalism of whole Italy, from bigger towns to small places.

On 12 May, Paolo Vaccari is by the Cultural Philatelic Club Tassoni in Modena for a talk on Italian States. Mainly, he answers the questions made by the participants who are interested in investigating several aspects relevant to philately but also to history and culture in general in Italy in the XIX century.

The six-monthly «Vaccari Magazine», on philately and postal history, is still one of the best awarded magazines in the world, and also at the World Stamp Show in New York from 28 May to 4 June 2016 it has obtained the biggest prize for literature, Large Vermeil (among 37 magazines from all over the world). The analytical index with all the articles published from 1989 divided by subject, author and issue has been awarded with the Large Silver.

The Italian Philatelic Press Union, to celebrate fifty years from its own foundation, organizes a meeting in Salerno; also the representatives of the four postal administrations of the Italian area participate. Open to everybody on 3 and 4 September, different subjects are dealt with. On Sunday, 4 September, Valeria Vaccari, editorial director of the company, makes her own thirty-year experience available to give suggestions on how a book on philately or postal history should be prepared, from different points of view.

And every Sunday, the publishing segment is favoured with recent philatelic publications, philatelic classic books, discounted proposals.

20 years have passed since the company site was born, with e-commerce from the start. During the years, it has been developing to offer a better service, with more functions but simple and fast at the same time. Also its look has changed, so that navigation is pleasant. Any products and pieces of information available are well organized and easy to be found; anyway, the search engine makes the task even easier.
On the occasion of Italiafil, in Bologna on 22 October, Giuseppe Buffagni presents «The Post in the Este territories and in the Duchy of Modena. History and postal history 1453-1852. Catalogue of Postmarks 2016». After fifteen years from the publication of the complete work in four volumes, an update was necessary only for the part relevant to the catalogue: new postmarks, several handwritten marks, many variations in colours, periods of use, but above all in first and last date known.

On 17 November Paolo Vaccari gives a lecture titled «Italian States forgeries with main reference to those of the Duchy of Modena», by the Cultural Philatelic Club Tassoni in Modena. The expert eye and in-depth postal-historical knowledge are fundamental to tell genuine from forgery, because imitations are really well done sometimes.

On 26 November, at Veronafil, the new edition of «The new Gaggero. Catalogue of squared circle postmarks of the Kingdom of Italy 2016» by Daniele Prudenzano is presented. The structure is the same but there are several updates: over 1,200 new marks (8,204 on the whole now), all the postmarks known for sure up to now, first and last year of use recorded, a wide introduction, index of places.

2017
Collection «Marco De Marchi», a unique gathering, is digitalized and catalogued and Vaccari is pleased and honoured for its supporting the project headed by the Italian Philatelic Press Union and Area Soprintendenza Castello, Musei Archeologici e Musei Storici of Milan. The collection has a high documentary value: thanks to postage stamps, fragments, covers and cancellations, it mainly follows Italian history in the Nineteenth century.

And Vaccari company is at 40! On 4 February 1977 Paolo Vaccari turned his childhood passion into a commercial activity. Thanks to the help of his wife Renata and then of his daughters Valeria and Silvia, the company has changed and developed, still remaining a valid reference for the sector at an international level.
